As a DJ
Considered an expert in her field, she is internationally recognised as a specialist in ‘World Music’ and ‘World Groove’. Her knowledge of African and Latin music is particularly extensive, and she is well connected and highly regarded by artists across the continent and abroad. She is also appreciated for sharing her expertise, and for applying it practically in various forms.
As a DJ, she has been performing for over 20 years – her sets are unparalleled, as she cuts across continents, bridging genres and generations.
As a pioneer of the “Public Art Movement”, NickyB began painting murals in 1990, and produced and facilitated over 70 public art works in South Africa and abroad.
NickyB is a regular contributor for esteemed publications, both locally, internationally and throughout the continent. She also researches and writes musician’s biographies, profiles and relevant information for CD sleeves, and has done music research and selection for film and television.
As an educator
NickyB has facilitated courses on “African Music” and “African Radio” and is involved in developing curriculum on African and World music.
As an expert in World Music
NickyB has been a judge for the Kora All African Music Awards, and the South African Music Awards; and is often invited as a panelist / speaker for seminars.
